Discover how your Incarnation Cross reveals your life purpose and role in the world.
What Is an Incarnation Cross?
In Human Design, your Incarnation Cross is often called the "theme of your life" — the overarching purpose you incarnated to explore. Drawn from the I Ching and calculated through your birth data, the cross appears as a literal X-shape in your BodyGraph, built from four specific gates that link your conscious and unconscious sides. It is not your personality, not your strategy, and not your authority. It is the deeper question your life is here to ask and answer.
The Four Gates of the Cross
Every cross is built from four gates — two on the conscious (personality) side and two on the unconscious (design/body) side. Specifically:
- The Conscious Sun is the gate you are aware of — the light you consciously carry.
- The Conscious Earth sits opposite it, grounding that light into form.
- The Unconscious Sun is the hidden light — the part of your purpose you often can't see, only feel.
- The Unconscious Earth is its grounding counterpart.
