The Juxtaposition Cross of Risks
The Fixed Fate of the Game Player
The Juxtaposition Cross of Risks is one of the most fated Incarnation Crosses in the mandala. In a Juxtaposition cross, the Personality Sun and Design Sun occupy the same gate, and the Personality Earth and Design Earth occupy the opposite gate. The two sides of the nodal axis (Personality and Design) are essentially mirror images, producing an incarnation purpose that feels predetermined rather than chosen. Where Right Angle crosses are about personal destiny and Left Angle crosses are about transpersonal karma through others, the Juxtaposition angle is a fixed fate. Those born under this cross are not so much authoring their purpose as fulfilling one already laid down.
The cross is composed entirely of Gate 28 (the Game Player) and Gate 23 (Assimilation), forming a tight four-gate structure: Personality Sun and Design Sun in 28, with the Earths in 23.

Gate 28, called The Game Player, is the root of the cross's identity. Its theme is the willingness to engage with life as a game, to take risks, and to find purpose through challenge, struggle, and the test of limits. The 28th Gate holds the spleen-centered knowing that life is precious precisely because it ends, and that engaging with this truth requires courage rather than retreat.
The 28th Gate's higher expression is leadership through gamemastering, naming the game, setting the rules, and playing skillfully. Its lower expression is the opposite: recklessness, giving up, or throwing the game away. This is the central axis around which the Cross of Risks turns.
How Purpose Unfolds: The Mandatory Dance with Chance
Because the cross is Juxtaposition, the purpose does not unfold through evolution (as in Right Angle) or through relationships with others (as in Left Angle). It unfolds through direct, unmediated engagement. Those carrying this cross are here to play a game of risk, and they cannot really escape that fact. The lesson is to risk consciously, intelligently, and with full awareness, rather than to play blind.
Gate 23, the Earth side of the cross, brings the complementary theme of assimilation and unique self-expression. The challenge of the 23rd Gate is to express one's distinct perception authentically without alienation. Paired with 28, this means the risks taken are not random; they are expressions of how this being uniquely sees the world. Risk and originality are linked.
