Every Human Design chart begins with Type. It is the most practical and the most fundamental piece of information the BodyGraph offers, because Type tells you not only who you are in the energetic sense but how you are designed to move through the world without resistance. Your strategy is the mechanical counter-move to the not-self behavior that arises when you live out of alignment with your design. To follow strategy is to stop fighting yourself. To ignore it is to invite frustration, bitterness, anger, or disappointment into the field of your life.

There are five Types: Generator, Manifesting Generator, Manifestor, Projector, and Reflector. Each operates through a distinct aura, a distinct strategy, and is rewarded by a distinct emotional signature when living correctly.

The Generator: To Respond

Generators are the life force of the planet. Roughly 37% of the population, they are defined by an open and enveloping aura that draws life toward them. Their strategy is to Respond, which means they do not initiate; they wait for life to come to them and answer from the gut. The sacral center is the source of their sustainable, generative power and the seat of their knowing.

When a Generator responds correctly, the signature is Satisfaction. When they initiate, push, or force, the not-self theme is Frustration. Practical guidance: stop trying to make things happen. Build, grow, and master what lights you up; life will ask its questions, and your sacral will know the answer.

The Manifesting Generator: To Respond (and Inform)

The Manifesting Generator is a Generator hybrid with a Manifestor throat connection, comprising about 33% of humanity. They share the Generator strategy of Responding, but their multi-passionate, fast, and efficient nature means they often skip steps. The healthy addition is to Inform once they have responded and are taking action.

The signature is Satisfaction, seasoned with peace once the initial surge has passed. The not-self is Frustration compounded by Anger at being slowed down. Practical guidance: respond first, then move quickly and tell the people in your wake what you are doing. The efficiency is the gift; skipping steps is the trap.
