Human Design and Nutrition: Eating by Your Inner Design
The Diet That Was Never Yours
Most people have tried dozens of diets that "worked" for a friend, then failed spectacularly for them. Human Design suggests the failure was never about willpower. It was about eating against your design. Before you change what you eat, the system insists you look at how you eat, when you eat, and who you eat with.
The Primary Health System (PHS), a subset of Human Design developed by Ra Uru Hu, isolates four biological variables. The two most relevant to nutrition are the Digestion arrow and the View arrow, both located in the upper trigrams of the Variable.
The Digestion Arrow: How You Actually Process Food
Your Digestion arrow is determined by the position of the Sun at your birth. It is either Left (Bearing) or Right (Activation), and it tells you almost nothing about what to eat and almost everything about how to eat it.
- Left — Bearing Digestion: You are designed to eat alone, in a settled environment, at consistent times. Eating while working, scrolling, or socializing is a low-grade tax on your system. The gift is steady, reliable assimilation. The shadow is rigidity, isolation, and the feeling that mealtimes are lonely or inconvenient.
- Right — Activation Digestion: You are designed to eat in conjunction with activity and ideally with company. The act of conversing, sharing, and being engaged "switches on" your digestive fire. The gift is metabolic flexibility. The shadow is dependence on social stimulation to eat well, and the tendency to under-eat when alone.
The View Arrow: What Your Body Sees as Food
The View arrow governs your relationship with taste and dietary specificity.
- Left — Opportunistic View: You tolerate variety and can move between eating styles without distress. The gift is adaptability. The shadow is chronic indecision, jumping from one nutritional philosophy to the next.
- Right — Fixed View:
