Gate 10, Lü / Treading, governs the behavior of the self — how conduct reveals whether one truly loves oneself. Line 2, the Hermit or Natural line, brings a receptive, inward-turning quality to this theme. Where other lines of Gate 10 may announce or demonstrate self-love outwardly, Line 2 discovers it in solitude. The 6th-level harmonic (the objective, role-modeling position of the hexagram) colors this retreat with maturity: it is not the escape of a wounded person, but the deliberate withdrawal of one who knows that self-love must first be trod quietly before it can be trod visibly.
