What is the difference between Strategy and Authority in Human Design?
Strategy is the mechanical role your Type plays in interactions (how you move through the world), while Authority is the inner decision-making process that tells you what is correct for you moment to moment.
Strategy describes how you are designed to interact with the world based on your Type. Generators and Manifesting Generators are meant to respond rather than initiate. Projectors are designed to wait for invitations. Manifestors are meant to inform before they act. Reflectors are meant to wait a full lunar cycle before making major decisions. Strategy is essentially the outward-facing mechanics of how you engage.
Authority, by contrast, is the inward-facing way you come to correct decisions. It operates through specific centres and channels in your chart, such as the emotional solar plexus, the sacral, the spleen, the heart, or the G centre. Each Authority reflects a different timing and processing style, from immediate knowing to waiting through emotional waves over time.
In practice, Strategy guides your interactions, while Authority guides your choices. Following Strategy reduces resistance in how you meet life, and following Authority supports decisions that are correct for you. Together they form a complementary pair: one shapes engagement, the other shapes direction.
Keep in mind that Human Design is a self-knowledge framework rather than a scientifically validated system, so it is best used as a reflective tool for self-observation rather than as absolute truth.
